Show will get tails wagging
Apparently, the credit crunch is seeing more animals turfed into the unwelcoming streets as owners struggle to manage their budgets.
What, like people don't budget for an extra mouth to feed before they purchase a pet?
In these parts, Hula Animal Rescue are seeing more deliveries of unfortunate yappers, and they are finding it more of a struggle to find new homes for the dogs that they do take in, which means that they need more funds to keep things ticking over at this belt-tightening time.
On Sunday it hosts its biggest fundraiser of the year, the all-important summer fete, and there is a shed-load happening.
A companion dog show will get tails wagging, the Diamond Theatre Group will perform for you, Ampthill Town Band will make a racket in the best way possible and a Tae Kwon-Do demonstration will make you realise how un-disciplined your wobbly bits are!
A skittle alley will be inviting competitions, and a parade of veteran and military vehicles will line up for inspection.
You can get to splashing cash at the tombolas and side stalls, take a chance on the raffle, or stock up on plants (it's the Sunday thing to do, and you've always room for one more).
Kids will love the children's corner and hopping up – and down – on the bouncy castle, and everyone will love a treat over at the home-made refreshments stall.
Peruse – and purchase – at the car boot sale and do remember to take along pictures of your perfect pets – add your snap(s) into the Pet Photo Show.
As we said before, this is Hula's annual biggie so far as fundraising goes, so do what you can to get their bank balance looking good.
There are lots of cute and cuddly (and some scared and timid) animals dependent on this sterling charity after being let down by others...
Admission is £2 for adults, £1 for accompanied kids. Horizon Radio's Jim Hellier will open the bash at midday, with gates staying open until 4.30pm.
