One woman tour de force
It's true to say that a fair proportion of you reading this article will have walked down the aisle, spoken the words 'I do' and exchanged the golden bands...only to find yourselves staring coldly across a solicitor's table some time later. It's fact.

All refreshed from its summer break, MK Theatre opens its doors on Wednesday to a play that will appeal to those of you who have been through it (divorce), those of you debating going through it and even those of you that just fancy a cracking night out – My Brilliant Divorce has been Oliver-nominated, after all.

In short, this is a one-woman tour de force, and the lady doing the work is Dillie Keane. The founding member of comedy cabaret bunch Fascinating Aida also has a long list of theatre cool to her name – she has starred in Me and My Girl, The Vagina Monologues, Charley's Aunt and Grumpy Old Women.

Wittily observant, side-splittingly funny and heart-breakingly realistic, this is a play which delves into bizarre dates, suspect purchases, a near reconciliation with the ex, and then a singles 'away weekend' in the Welsh Hills which does supply some hope.

Angela Lipsky is the lady of the story, who finds herself adrift in a sea of shifty solicitors, a disapproving mother, a series of phone-in helplines, Christmas on her own and an erosion of her self-confidence. And it's all thanks to her husband having a mid-life crisis and a mid-European affair. Do you feel pity for him yet?

So to the big question: Should Angela fight to keep her hubby? Or should she sign the final papers and move on?

Decisions have to be made, and Angela will make them nightly through to Saturday.

Tickets range from £10 up to £22. Performances are 7.30pm, with Thursday and Saturday matinees at 4pm.
