It’s the only festival for discerning rock fans, and this weekend, heavy heads will make the annual pilgrimage to Donington Park to workship at the Marshall amp strewn altar, Download.

This year’s headliners are Slipknot, Rammstein and Iron Maiden, with artists including QOTSA, Thirty Second to Mars, Motorhead, Mastodon, Masters of Reality, The Hives and HIM all ready to slay the famous arena over the course of the three day event, which begins on Friday.

But in 2013, the line-up has been swelled by a couple of local talents, and Hacktivist and Heart of a Coward will be stage stepping alongside the big boys.

Both bands truly deserve it too – they’ve crafted hard, and slogged their guts out over the past while.

Little more than a year ago, Heart of a Coward were hopefuls with an album ready to drop.

On its release, Hope & Hindrance blew the lid off the secret.

Twelve months, and heaps of acclaim later and the band is gearing up for album number two and stacks more gigs.

Hacktivist and their blend of metal, grime, hardcore and hip-hop has caused waves on the scene, and a recent tour with Enter Shikari did wonders for their already burgeoning profile.

Before they land at Download, Hacktivist will spend the prior evening in Glasgow, with a warm-up date alongside Limp Bizkit...

All this, and their debut album isn’t even in the can yet!

Whoever said MK has no talent can go sit on the naughty step. Us? We’ll be cheering on the talent at Download!
