Enjoy a ‘Mosquito Mojito’ and some fine tunes at The Living Room when musicians take on the fight against Malaria with a live music showcase at the Witan Gate venue.
The event, on Thursday 25 April, coincides with World Malaria Day and every £7 raised will be used to buy life-saving mosquito nets via the United Nations Foundation’s global Nothing But Nets campaign.
This grassroots initiative raises funds to distribute long-lasting, insecticide-treated bed nets to families across sub-Saharan Africa and educates communities how to use them.
Inspired by the creative covers heard on Radio 1’s Live Lounge, The Living Room’s musicians will put their special twist on some of the finest hits of the 21st Century.
Expect to hear modern classics ranging from The Killers, Amy Winehouse, Mumford & Sons, Adele, Plan B and Paolo Nutini.
After the live music, resident DJs will take you into the early hours with past, present and future classics.
The event is free to attend but The Living Room will be taking requests throughout the night for a suggested donation of £5 a song.
The bespoke ‘Mosquito Mojito’ will be available throughout April and £1 per purchase will be donated to the campaign to help end malaria in this generation.
Kyle Stevens, general manager at The Living Room, said: “A mosquito net simply costs the same as a round, but is one of the most important ways to stop the spread of malaria.
“This night is our way of supporting the UN Foundation’s Nothing But Nets campaign and we hope it’s going to be really well supported in Milton Keynes.”
