IT HAS been said on more than a few occasions, that the best things are worth waiting for, writes Sammy Jones.

And here in the new city, you’ll not find a fan of the classic movie Grease that disagrees – for the past couple of nights, fans of the original (and best) high-school musical from 1978 have been flocking to Milton Keynes Theatre to catch it on stage here for the first time in five years...

Don’t waste your time sitting in this Bank Holiday weekend for the repeat – go take a pew and really feel the pulse of the piece!

John Travolta and Olivia Newton John will forever be etched into the minds of millions as Danny Zuko and Sandy, but this movie made stars of the cast entire – who can forget the T Birds and the Pink Ladies?

Yep, despite those nit-picking teachers, Rydell High was a pretty groovy school to study (and party) at...

And it must be said that at none of our places of learning did the puipls randomly break into exhuberant tunes like Grease Is The Word, You’re The One That I Want, Summer Nights and Greased Lightnin’.

Or shed a tear to slushy romantic numbers like Hopelessly Devoted To You...

But I digress...

Before the film, Grease was on Broadway, and like the movie that followed, it’s appeal has waned not a jot.

Grease returned to the West End stage back in 2007 and has since played more than 1500 performance, viewed by a whopping one and a hlaf million theatregoers – it is now the lonest running show in the history of Piccadilly Theatre.

Taking the lead roles this time around will be the winner of ITV show Grease Is The Word, Danny Bayne, and Carina Gillespie.

One of the conutry’s most acclaimed ice skaters, Robin Cousins is also joining the cast, guest starring as Angel in the piece.

Robin retired from the world of ice 11 years ago, habing spent thirty years working on the ice – 20 of them as a pro skater.
