The Commitments, Milton Keynes Theatre, November 1 to 5
Some 30 years since The Commitments first burst from the pages of Roddy Doyle’s novel, the world’s hardest working soul band rolls into Milton Keynes featuring Coronation Street’s Kevin Kennedy. The show received universal critical acclaim following its London world premiere and features more than 20 soul classics.

Bletchley Park, until October 29
The home of the Codebreakers has teamed up with national art initiative The Big Draw for a series of events including a family art trail and installations by Mark Sibley. Youngsters can try embossing and printmaking, while older children can have a night-time tour of the site.

Polymnia with Lesley Garrett, Church of Christ the Cornerstone, October 29
Britain’s favourite soprano, Lesley Garrett, is appearing with MK’s chamber orchestra Polymnia for their charity gala concert this Saturday. The audience will be treated to works by Mozart, Verdi and Rutter, together with well-known songs from musicals.

Benjamin Bloom’s Last Man on Earth, The Stables, Wavendon, October 28
Prepare for a rock musical like no other, where live rock concert meets musical, circus, cabaret and cinema. Featuring the original songs of Benjamin Bloom, the show tells the story of how the world went mad with greed and the unlikely hero who stepped up to save the day. The story is narrated in video by Hugo Myatt, of cult 80s show Knightmare.

Little horrors will be able to take part a ghost hunt trail for the entire family, listening to stories told by Victorian ghost hunters as they collect spooky clues
and solve haunting
puzzles. Creepy craft sessions will also be available throughout the day, and children can have a go at carving their own petrifying pumpkin. There’s a chance to show off some scary costumes, too.
