Dino-mazing monsters book nights at The Stables

Book your seat at the Dinosaur Zoo which comes to The Stables for two nights next week.

Prepare to be thrilled when the dinosaurs come out to play!

This is the show to end the school summer holidays in spectacular style.

It’s the event of the year and something that your children will be talking about for months afterwards.

But be warned - it is a little bit scary. Tiny tots may find it a little too intense- the recommended age range is five to 13. After all, it’s not every day that you see children gobbled up by one of the world’s largest predators.

I caught the show last Tuesday at London’s Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre in one of its last shows before the production launches on a nationwide tour.

Its first stops is The Stables in Wavendon next Tuesday and Wednesday (September 10/11).

“G’day” shouts compere Lindsey as she welcomes yet another expectant crowd.

She warns youngsters sitting in “the danger zone” - the first couple of rows - that they may be eaten.

“I guarantee that by the end of the show some of you will be crying,” she predicts.

True to her word some very small children don’t make it to the end, and they’re comforted by relatives , as the rest of us stare in wonder at this amazing, truly interactive, show.

It’s only 50 minutes long (without a break) but that’s more than enough to get the lowdown on what it was like when dinosaurs ruled the earth more than 65million years ago.

In an entertaining mix of education and showbiz Lindsey fires off facts, that shows she knows her stuff, before introducing us to the stars.

We start off small, a couple of babies, brought on by their handlers Hal Silvester and Steve Peck.

She then gives a very animated description of how the youngsters would have been fed on their mothers’ vomit.

There’s a carnivorous insect, a man-eater with toothache and a giant who likes nothing better than chomping on children, no, sorry, make that flowers.

In-between introductions children are brought, wide-eyed, onto the stage to be part of this very unique puppet show (you didn’t think they were real did you?)

At the end the mighty monsters stage a meet and greet with their awestruck audience.

The production is the brainchild of an Australian outfit called Erth who specialise in eye-popping entertainment that is reflective of their culture – which is why the dinosaurs are all from the southern hemisphere.

There’s no T Rex (he was European apparently) but there’s lots to keep everyone entertained and thoroughly engrossed.
