Walk down the Aisle at St Guthlac

A splendid example of architecture, Passenham Church has a gloriously long history too.

“It is a building of peculiarities,” says Ian Ranson, “It escaped the Victorians who quite often went over the top, and ripped out many features.

“It has also escaped other restorations over the years and has many rarities.”

Those rarities serve as a higgledy-piggledy historical jigsaw of the beautiful building.

Among those pieces deserving special mention?

A 17th century stained glass window of St Elizabeth of Hungary, rare Georgian pews, gallery, and the wall paintings in the chancel all deserve particular mention, and all will be available to inspect when the church opens its doors to visitors between 11am and 4pm.

When GO! popped across to the quiet and serene hamlet of Passenham the sun was shining on the church, and its hundreds of years of history (the foundations are 12th century) and it looked wonderful.
