Chamber Business Awards: Internet firm has ViBE for awards

A COMPANY that has grown up in Milton Keynes has decided to put its power behind this year’s Milton Keynes and North Bucks Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards.

IT solutions company Powernet, in Midsummer Boulevard, started business in 1995 from a house in Emerson Valley.

From there the company’s founders started connecting homes and businesses to the internet.

Today Powernet is the oldest, independently owned Internet Service Provider in the UK, supplying thousands of business customers with connectivity, vital to their operation.

Just as Powernet grew from small entrepreneurial roots, so it wants to help recognise new businesses, through sponsoring the Entrepreneur of the Year Award.

Powernet founder and chief executive Tony Tugulu said: “The internet has given anyone with enough drive and talent the ability to create a successful business,.

“Entrepreneurship has thrived online just like Powernet we have seen small start ups grow into larger online businesses that trade all over the world.”

Just like any good business, Powernet is always looking to develop products for customers. Its latest product is called ViBE and it allows up to 60 VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocal) calls to be made over a standard broadband connection.

Powernet says that without ViBE only three or four VoIP calls can be made over the same connection.

The entrepreneur award seeks to recognise the outstanding contribution and success of a local entrepreneur.

The winner will have to demonstrate outstanding business success over a number of years, a contribution to company, industry sector and wider community. The winner will also be recognised by peers as an outstanding business person.
