The 36-metre high Willen Observational Wheel, organised by The Parks Trust, opened at Willen Lake on Saturday (September 12) and is available to ride everyday between between 11am and 7pm throughout autumn.

Twenty-four gondolas are attached to the wheel, which can sit up to six people at a time, meaning the ride can accommodate for a total of 144 people when full.

The wheel is about six times as tall as a giraffe, which grows to about 6-metres in height, or 17 times as tall as former basketball player Shaquille O'Neal, who is 2.1-metres tall.

Each complete rotation of the wheel, which has been coined WOW MK, short for Willen Observational Wheel, takes approximately 10 minutes.

Located on the events lawn close to Splash ‘n’ Play, customers will have to book tickets for the ride in advance, with prices starting at £5 for individuals and £20 for families.

A WOW MK spokesperson said it is adhering to the current Covid-19 government guidelines, and that there is hand sanitiser stations at all exit and entry points of the wheel.

Capacity will be limited, and only guests from the same household/bubble are alllowed to share a gondola.

Enhanced cleaning regimes are also in place, the spokesperson said, with major touch points being disinfected and deep cleans of the gondolas carried out at points throughout the day.

The ride is also wheelchair accessible.
