Chip, chip hooray - Milton Keynes chippies named one of UK’s best mobile operators

Jamie and Charlotte from Milton Keynes have been named as one of the UK’s 10 Best Mobile Fish & Chip Operators for the second year in a row.

The a-peeling accolade for Howe and Co franchise - Van 22 - follows an extensive search by leading trade publication Fry Magazine to find the very best mobile units serving up the finest fish suppers.

To make the 10 best, Van 22 had to impress a mystery diner who visited unannounced and marked the van on more than 40 aspects of their business from the quality of the food and customer service to cleanliness and value for money.

With the pass mark set at 89 per cent, Jamie and Charlotte scored a near perfect 97 per cent with the mystery diner particularly praising their fish and chip suppers, saying “the chips were the best we have tasted in a long time. They were lovely and fluffy and perfect to eat”.

The mystery diner also praised the couples service, saying “the staff were very polite and friendly. They were interested in the customer and asked how far you had travelled which makes a difference when you are waiting for food”.

Jamie Bachman, from Howe and Co and Van 22, said: "We are absolutely over the moon to hear the news that we have won for the second year in a row. We took on board the judges’ comments last year and did our very best to improve.

"We have an amazingly loyal customer base. Some wait for us on their road and some jump in the car and use our online chippy tracker to chase us down. We have a combined experience over 20 years, and we love what we do."
