Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service tweeted on Monday (October 19) warning residents that the WiFi Smart Power Strip 13A extension lead has been recalled by the European Commission.

The European Commission review of the product said: "Due to the product's poor build, user must forcefully take plug out of the socket. The top of plug could break giving access to live parts. The user could touch accessible live parts and receive an electric shock.

"The product does not comply with the requirements of the Low Voltage Directive and the relevant national standard."

The European Commission has ordered the recall of the item from the end users and it has also urged it to be taken off the online marketplace.

Made in China, the item is compatible with Alexa and Echo and sold online, in particular via eBay.
