CMG Rescue Services has organised a convoy of is vehicles to parade through Newport Pagnell for the past four Thursdays, with lights flashing an horns tooting.

They quickly became a huge hit with residents, particularly children who were out clapping and banging on saucepans to show their own support for NHS workers.

But today CMG spokesman Mark Cowan said the parades must stop because some people had complained about the noise.

He made an announcement on social media saying: "To all Newportonians, it is with regret that I have to advise you all that due to various complaints which CMG have received over the last two weeks, the management team have taken the decision to stop the parade of trucks around the town of Newport Pagnell."

He added: "This, as you all know, has been happening every Thursday at 8pm for the last four weeks. We never expected it to grow as big as it has and have the following it has received.

"I hope you will all remember these good times and hope we will all go back to some kind of normality very soon, On behalf of the CMG management, stay safe."

The announcement from the company, which is based at Newport Pagnell motorway services, caused an immediate outcry from the town, with hundreds of people taking to social media begging CMG to continue.

One person wrote: "Very, very sad to see that your way of marking the huge efforts of our NHS staff is being undermined by a few people when it is such an uplifting moment to so many of us. I am really disappointed to see this, as others have said, particularly as Thursday is Captain Tom's birthday.... Made even worse by the fact that a number of local NHS/health workers have appreciated what you do and now to stop."

Another said: "This is so sad. It’s amazing watching all the CMG lorries come past. Makes you feel very emotional. Whoever the people are that have been complaining, you’re all very boring people."

A third wrote: "Why do the minorities always get their miserable po-faced way? Great job lads, let it continue."
