While the process presents some unique challenges - particularly for small and growing businesses - with a little planning, it doesn’t need to be a headache. That’s according to the specialists at Milton Keynes-based IT support company, Dragon Information Systems.

Managing director Lionel Naidoo explains: “In the past few weeks we’ve been busy supporting our customers to successfully make the move to remote working - from accountants, to law firms, printers to estate agents and everything in between.

“What all these firms have in common is that they want to maintain ‘business as usual’ and keep customers happy, while ensuring they are operating securely. The good news is, they can!

“Here are three essentials steps that businesses need to think about.”

Step 1. Choose the right tools

There is a lot of choice when it comes to things like file sharing and videoconferencing. Make sure you know the strengths and weaknesses of any platform you might invest in. Factors such as security, functionality and the size of your network will determine the optimum choice.

Step 2. Keep your security software updated

Cybersecurity is important at any time, but particularly when adjusting to new ways of working. It’s essential that you have the right software and antivirus package. New versions and updates are being released all the time to try and counter new and existing threats.

Step 3. Beware of scams

To cybercriminals the pandemic is simply a new opportunity! There has been an increase in scams, such as phishing emails and messages claiming to be from HMRC or the government, but also in fake orders and customers. Never drop your guard and stay vigilant. If something looks too good to be true, it probably is!
