High Sheriff praises MK SNAP for transforming lives of people with learning disabilities

The High Sheriff of Buckinghamshire, Pippa Kirkbride, visited local charity MK SNAP to hear directly from learners how its life changing programmes are helping them grow in confidence, independence, and wellbeing.
During her visit, the High Sheriff explored MK SNAP’s vibrant learning environment, where adults with learning disabilities take part in a wide range of skill‑building activities. From physical wellbeing sessions to social enterprise opportunities—including a bustling community café, commercial packing and assembly work, creative canvas art commissions, handcrafted products, and home‑grown produce—she saw first-hand the quality, care, and ambition that define the charity’s work.
“I was struck by the industry of everyone concentrating on the task of the moment with clear endeavour and enjoyment,” said the High Sheriff.
The High Sheriff, who has dedicated her year in office to championing the impact of volunteering, also met the volunteers who play a vital role at MK SNAP. They support learners in sessions, help deliver indoor and outdoor projects, and contribute to essential fundraising efforts. Their commitment, she noted, is a powerful example of how volunteers strengthen communities.

MK SNAP is an award‑winning charity providing inclusive education, life skills, and work training for people with learning disabilities. The organisation is dedicated to challenging stereotypes, celebrating ability, and showcasing what disabled people can achieve in work, in life, and in the wider community.
