MP takes in local views

Members of the local branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) have met with Buckingham and Bletchley MP Callum Anderson at the Green Man Public House in Mursley.

On the agenda was current economic conditions in the UK for brewers and pub owners.

CAMRA campaigns to make sure quality cask ale is found on as many bars as possible, and keeps a particular eye on the fortunes of independent local brewers. British Real Ale is a much-loved national product but meets fierce competition from global brands. Fiscal policy applied by government can support independent brewers and is an important objective.

Equally as important is making sure that pubs stay open. The Green Man itself was shut for several years before a local businessman came to the rescue and restored the villagers’ much loved pub. CAMRA encourages pubs to apply to become an Asset of Community Value (ACV) which gives protection against a precipitous change of use.

Callum readily agreed to keep an eye on the situation too, and to lend his support where he could.
