Great News! After winning “Bucks Best Kept Village” this year, and gaining a Regional Gold Medal, Stony Stratford in Bloom volunteers are delighted to have won a Gold Medal at the National Finals of the Britain in Bloom Competition. own play their part too”.

Chairwoman Judy Deveson said: “We’ve gained Gold at the Regional Level 11 times, but Gold at the National Level is something else. Arit Anderson, well-known garden designer and broadcaster, presented the certificates and awards at the inspiring awards ceremony in Brighton last week, and we received the Judges’ reports this week.

We enjoyed reading their warm words about ‘the obvious commitment of the community and businesses to provide a beautiful and tidy town’ and ‘the wonderful display down the High St.’ As well as picking out the Heritage Orchard as an ‘Outstanding area’.

They were also full of praise for the York House Community Garden, where we grow vegetables for the Foodbank; as well as Karen Parker’s unique bird house; our horticultural standards in all the beds around the town – and the fact that our work parties continue throughout the year.

Other groups in the town have been vital in our success – the Business Association organising their stunning hanging baskets, our planter sponsors; Hazel Wallis’s attractive church gardens buzzing with bees in the centre. We had the support of the Town Council and their contractors, Millstream and their waterers, Axiom, as well as the MKC Environmental Waste team.

The It’s Your Neighbourhood Groups in Fullers Slade, Galley Hill, The Rowans and the North end ensure that all parts of the town bloom – as do residents who look after the Memorial Gardens and community pavement gardens in so many places.

The role of the school children and youth groups mustn’t be forgotten. It’s been a whole community effort, and Stony Stratford in Bloom volunteers have been deeply touched by the cascade of hundreds of lovely messages of appreciationon our Facebook page and when we see residents in the street.
