Here is a list of cafes, pubs and restaurants which are providing free meals to Milton Keynes school children over the half-term

On Wednesday evening (October 21), MPs rejected Labour's motion to provide free school meals over the holidays until Easter 2021 by 322 votes to 261.

Ben Everitt, Conservative MP for Milton Keynes North, and Iain Stewart, Conservative MP for Milton Keynes South, both voted against the motion.

Here are the food outlets helping Milton Keynes school children:

The Grumpy Cook

The cafe, in Shenley Church End, posted on its Facebook page on Friday, October 23 advertising its new free school lunch scheme for children, with the meals available between Monday, October 26 and Friday, October 30 each morning from 11.30am.

A shop spokesperson said: "We are offering free meals for children from underprivileged families between 1pm and 5pm everyday over the half term to help support families who struggle with food.

"Meals offered are: chips and sausage, chips and nuggets, and chips and veggie burger."

The Caldecotte Pub and Grill

A pub spokesperson said: "With the half-term beginning we know some families will be struggling, especially in these uncertain times. We will be making up free kids packed lunches to take out from Monday (October 26) to Friday (October 30) between 11am-12pm."

The food will be made fresh each morning and will include a sandwich, packet of crisps, juice and a yogurt or piece of fruit.

The spokesperson said: "Please only pick one up if you really do need it so that we can try and make a real difference in our community. No need to explain anything to us, just pop in and ask for a kids lunch and we will just hand it over. If anyone would like to make any donations, please do so....any left over food will be passed to the local food bank."

The Ivy Lane, in Great Brickhill

A pub spokesperson said: "Just a little reminder, if anyone in the surrounding villages is struggling this half term, we will be happy to provide a packed lunch style food package for you to get through half term with a little pressure eased..

"You don't need to be on benefits, you don't need to normally have free school meals, and it doesn't matter what age your children are. If you are struggling, or just a bit short of money, and the parcel would help you through the half term, please get in touch."

Marco Pierre White Steakhouse Bar & Grill Milton Keynes, at the Stadium:MK

A restaurant spokesperson said: parents can take their children to the Marco Pierre White restaurant where they can feed their kids for free over the October half-term.

The offer applies to under-12s and includes either a starter and main or main and dessert with every paying adult main off the à la carte menu.

Michaela Slann, restaurant manager, said: “We all need a little escapism, especially at the moment, and the opportunity to pop out for a meal with your family is a great way to do just that.

“Constantly finding things to do and entertain the kids throughout the half term holidays can be quite an expensive exercise which is why we’ve put this offer in place.

“The menus are perfect for kids, so parents won’t have to worry about there not being anything that they like. Whether it’s pasta, fish and chips and steaks we’re expecting to see a lot of happy faces during the holidays.”

MK Benfica FC

The Sunday football league club is offering free packed lunches to any child who needs it during the half term week 'to give a little back to our community'.

A club spokesperson said: "We don’t want to see any child going hungry so we will playing our part in ensuring this half term children across Milton Keynes do not go hungry. This will be funded solely by MK Benfica FC to give something back to the community in the times of need.

"Pleas do not feel ashamed or embarrassed, no questions asked and no judgments."

The club said it is offering lunch delivery between 12 and 2pm, or a collection service from Stony Stratford, if preferred.

DREAMSAI

The charitable organisation, which was setup in March to help the elderly survive Covid-19, delivered food and essentials packs to more than 50 families with children in Milton Keynes. The packs contained fresh fruits, cereals, milk, lunch essentials, puddings & sweets – sufficient for two weeks.

A DREAMSAI spokesperson said: "This project was conceptualized and run end-to-end by DREAMSAI youth team. The team is out every day of this week delivering to the needy. It can be said, without hesitation, that the younger generation is steps ahead when it comes to benevolence and charity."

Berlin Pizza, in Netherfield

A spokesperson said: "In light of recent news, we’d like to offer our support to anyone who might be struggling this half term by offering free meals for kids. You have shown such wonderful support in recent months - and now it’s our turn to support our local community."

Customers can collect either a kids pizza meal or kids chicken nugget meal between Monday (October 26) and Saturday (October 31) from 12pm to 5pm.

The spokesperson said it is collection only and children must accompanied by an adult , but there is no obligation for parents to eat.

Prezzo Italian Restaurant Milton Keynes Kingston Centre

General Manager Michael Lever said: "If you're worried about keeping kids' tummies full over the half-term then head to Milton Keynes Kingston Prezzo and pick up a free pasta box. No charge, no strings, no questions asked. Happy half-term, everyone."

The takeaway scheme is in operation between 11.30am and noon each day until Friday (October 30).
