Students from Milton Keynes school produce their own book to help people understand sign language

The book, called Quip and Keep, has won the an award for Best Product Design. award in the Young Enterprise East of England Regional Finals.

It shows readers how to sign keywords that fit into the specially-designed short stories.

The stories are described as "diverse, inclusive and creatively fun to read.”

More than 50 Hazeley students, split into four teams, took up the Young Enterprise challenge to run their own companies, starting from last September.

The other companies focused on a mythical card game and electronic charging devices.

Despite the lockdown, the businesses were involved in the competition stage where they had to produce a business plan and compete against other schools in Milton Keynes.

Quip and Keep, led by managing director, Brooklynne Williams, were Overall Area Winners in Milton Keynes and then progressed to the Regional Finals.

The judges told the team: “Quip and Keep are a strong, creative and entrepreneurial team. Whilst facing challenges you overcame them to produce a product worthy of being showcased in bookshops! You showed professionalism, used all resources available to you and great networking skills that all came together to create your product. A highly creative approach to supporting Young People with an important and sometimes overlooked skills which is very much needed in society.”

The book will be available to purchase from the Milton Keynes museum after lockdown.
