Throughout this troubled week, Milton Keynes' amazing community has shown it is far from broken by the pandemic panic. Instead people have rallied round to help each other and ensure the most vulnerable and elderly people in our midst are not forgotten.

We think such neighbourly spirit should be rewarded, so each week we will publish 10 of these random acts of kindness that are being carried out all around us. And we are asking you, our readers, to send us details of such acts via this post.

They can be big or small and they can be carried out by people of any age. Make a nomination yourself by telling us briefly what the act of kindness is. Don't forget to attach a photo. Then please share this post to your friends so they too can spread the word and the community spirit in MK.

A perfect example today is one caring patient at MKUH, who is working from his hospital bed to start a 'helping hands' Facebook page where members of the community can help each other through the coronavirus crisis.

Akshat Yadav, 39, is awaiting an operation to remove his appendix after being admitted to MK hospital with appendicitis.

"While I'm in here waiting it suddenly struck me that we could do with a common page for help. This is the first Facebook page I've ever set up but I'm very happy to do it if it will help the wellbeing of our community," he said.

"In these unprecedented times we have to come together to help each other out and take care of everyone around."

People can post a request for help, whether it is needing somebody to fetch them a pint of milk, or nappies for the baby, or someone to take their dog for a walk, and other members of the group can offer their services if they are able.

Meanwhile Akshat, who lives with his wife and two young children on Brooklands, has praised the hard-working staff in Milton Keynes hospital.

"You can tell people are scared of Covid-19 here. Having said that our NHS staff are very brave. Kudos to them," he said.
