Covid-19 death toll slows at last at Milton Keynes hospital

The number of Covid-19 fatalities at Mk hospital is showing signs of slowing from its grim peak of up to five deaths a day.

Over the weekend two deaths of patients who had tested positive for the virus were recorded at the hospital, bringing the total to 88 since the start of the pandemic.

Government figures showed, as from yesterday, there had been a total of 436 confirmed cases of coronavirus in MK.

This was a rise of 24 since Friday. But an increase is to be expected after the opening of the city's testing facility at Grafton Gate.

None of these figures include deaths or infections in the community or care homes.

Nationally the death rate yesterday, at 360, was the lowest for weeks.

Today's figure, which will show whether the decrease is has been sustained, will be released later this afternoon.
