Impact Trading in Hanslope supplies corporate clothing, workwear and uniforms but was forced to temporarily close last week due to the Covid-19 crisis.

"We (the staff) suddenly had time on our hands. We wanted to do something practical to help with the current situation, so after much discussion we decided to get together and use our skills along with other local seamstress volunteers to make 500 sets of scrubs to be split between Northampton General Hospital and Milton Keynes University Hospital at no cost to them," said a spokesman.

Scrubs are the sanitary clothing worn by surgeons, doctors, nurses and other care workers involved in patient care in hospitals.

The spokesman said: "There is a current shortage of these clothes due to the recent outbreak of Covid-19 Impact Trading based in Hanslope, Milton Keynes, is kindly making its production unit available to us at no cost and kick starting the project with an initial £500 for materials. We are hoping to raise an additional £1,500 by crowdfunding to pay for more fabric and thread, so that 500 garments can be completed.

"The materials to make one set of scrubs is approximately £5, so please donate as much as you can to help us help your local NHS workers."

The appeal has so far raised £291 towards its £1,500 goal.
