"This is because, of closure is compulsory, our staff will be entitled to government help and up to 80 per cent of their salary will be paid. It means we need not lay them poff knowing they will get no money," said one salon owner.

"We are fully expecting the government to make an announcement later today or first thing in the morning."

Meanwhile most hair and beauty salons are putting extra hygiene measure in place and seating clients as far away form each other as possible.

"But in this industry it is hard to avoid close contact. We would rather be closed," said one owner.

She said it is "doubtful" that mobile haridressing services will still be allowed during the pandemic,.

"People will resort to cutting their own hair and doing their own home beauty treatments. We will be a nation of messy-haired people. But that will be the least of our worries during this horrible time," she said.
