Milton Keynes Covid-19 death toll is almost double the official government figure

New data this week shows 194 deaths involving Covid-19 have been registered in Milton Keynes.

The government's official death toll figure for MK is 103, but this only covers deaths that happened in hospital.

However, data from the Office for National Statistics details deaths in care homes and in the community. And this reveals that a total of 194 deaths involving Covid-19 were provisionally registered in Milton Keynes up to four days ago, June 20.

Of those, 88 occurred outside hospital – including 77 in care homes and eight at private homes. A further three deaths occurred in hospices, other community establishments or elsewhere.

That was up from 76 deaths in care homes in the previous week. In general, care home residents have accounted for 40 per cent of all Covid-19 deaths in Milton Keynes up to June 20.

The latest figures, based on where Covid-19 is mentioned anywhere on the death certificate, include deaths that occurred up to June 12 but were registered up to eight days later.

Across England and Wales, 48,795 deaths involving Covid-19 were provisionally registered up to June 20. Of those, 30 per cent were in care homes and 63 per cent in hospital.
