Milton Keynes school hit by Covid-19 outbreak

Shenley Brook End School, in Walbank Grove, sent out a letter to parents this morning (Monday, October 19) warning that one Year 11 student and one Year 12 student have recently tested positive for the virus and are both now self-isolating.

The letter, signed by head teacher Chris Holmwood, said the Year 11 student has been isolating throughout the infectious period and therefore did not affect their year group bubble, meaning no extra students need to self-isolate in this instance.

However, because the Year 12 student has come into contact with others, the letter says, three pupils have been forced to self-isolate as a precaution, in line with Public Health England's Covid-19 guidance.

Mr Holmwood said he 'appreciates it is a very difficult and uncertain time' and thanked parents for their 'support and understanding'.

This news comes after the school reported on Wednesday, October 14 that another student, whose year group is unknown, had contracted the virus.

As per the government, if a school has 'two or more confirmed cases within 14 days'.it may be classed as an outbreak.

The school, which has 1,803 students according to its website, reported its first positive case on Friday, September 18 after a Year 12 student got the virus.
