Oakgrove School, in Venturer Gate, Middleton, sent out a warning letter to parents on Thursday (November 12) alerting them that 'more members' within the school community have contracted the virus.

The letter says a number of people who came into 'close contact' with the person have been forced to self-isolate for 14 days.

One parent, who wishes to remain nameless, raised their concerns, saying: "From a parent's perspective, if someone is confirmed in the same class as my child I do not want my child going to school, this is to protect others and vice versa.

"The only people who have to self-isolate is the person who sits next to someone confirmed positive. Clearly the numbers will rise like that."

It also comes during the second national lockdown, which started on November 5 and will end on December 2, where many businesses have had to shut to prevent the spread of the virus.

The government's guidance around Covid-19 in schools says that an outbreak can be defined if a school has 'two or more confirmed cases within 14 days'.
