Nursery at the centre of the Covid-19 outbreak assures people there is no risk to wider public in Milton Keynes

Acorn nursery at Westcroft re-opened on June 1 and over the past 10 days has seen 20 children, staff and family members test positive for Covid-19.

Earlier today Milton Keynes Director of Public Health Muriel Scott warned that further outbreaks could happen in Mk if people did not stick to lockdown and social distancing rules. See the Citizen story here .

The nursery has now spoken to the Citizen, saying there were no public health concerns about the infection controls it had in place.

A spokesperson said: "We can confirm that there have been positive cases of Covid-19 in our nursery at Westcroft, Milton Keynes. We would like to reassure everyone that this is contained to individual bubbles in one nursery and we have been working closely with Public Health England (PHE) and Milton Keynes Council throughout. "

She added:"The bubbles exposed to the confirmed cases are self-isolating and PHE have confirmed that there are no public health concerns in relation to the controls in place at the nursery as they are adhering to government guidelines.

"PHE are now offering COVID-19 testing to all staff, children and households to provide peace of mind to the families affected, but also to help PHE understand more about the spread of the infection in early years settings.

"We have been working hard to directly speak to each family affected by this and support them with their individual queries and needs. The nursery remains open to bubbles not exposed to confirmed cases and the health, safety and wellbeing of our children and staff remains our top priority.

The spokesperson added: "We welcomed back the first bubble of children today from their period of self-isolation, and look forward to the remaining children and staff returning next week. We would like to thank everyone for their continued patience and support, and particularly our nursery parents, who have been very understanding and supportive throughout the whole Covid-19 crisis."

The Westcroft nursery, which is in the Wescroft District Centre, is one of nine day nurseries run by Acorn Early Years Foundation in MK.

It takes children aged from four months to four years between 7.30am and 6pm and the fees are up to £63 per day.
