Today is the sixth day without a Covid-19 death at Milton Keynes hospital

For the sixth day running, no patients have died of coronavirus at MK hospital.

This time last month the hospital was losing an average of two or three patients a day to the virus, so the decrease is a sign that the city is over the peak.

Care home deaths are reported separately by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), and currently figures are only available up to May 1.

Over the past 24 hours there have been six new confirmed cases of coronavirus in Milton Keynes, bringing the total to 498 cases since the start of the pandemic.

The number of new cases over the past seven days is 14, an average of two a day. This is a significant drop from this time last month when the daily numbers reached as high as 25.

Nationally, the total number of lab-confirmed UK cases is 219,183, which is an increase of 3,923 since yesterday.

The number of deaths throughout the UK over the past 24 hours is 269. This brings the total to 31,855.
