Horrible vomiting disease is spreading among dogs in Milton Keynes warns vet

They have noticed a surge in dogs suffering from frequent and forceful vomiting, prolonged loss of appetite, lethargy and diarrhoea with "gravy-like" stools.
Philip Hanlon, veterinary surgeon at the Milton Keynes Veterinary Group, said: "The cause of these cases is currently unknown, however the frequently and persistence of vomiting is higher than typically seen with a canine gastroenteritis case."

Hide AdNumerous cases have also been reported in other parts of the UK and it is believed the disease can be passed from dog to dog. It is not, however, thought to be transmitted to people.
Mr Hanlon said: "It is sensible for owners to handle a suspected case with caution and limit contact between affected and unaffected dogs.”
The bug is worse that canine gastroenteritis because affected dogs vomit more frequently and can be reluctant to take food for anything between two and five days afterwards.
Both vaccinated and unvaccinated dogs have been affected, and after receiving symptomatic veterinary treatment animals have made a full recovery.

Hide AdMr Hanlon said: "It is important to note that the causes of vomiting can be varied and we advise dog owners seek veterinary advice if their dog shows clinical signs."
He is reporting all suspected cases to the Small Animals Surveillance Network at the University of Liverpool.
