Milton Keynes care home installs tiny pub for residents to enjoy the World Cup

A Milton Keynes care home has created a tiny pub so its residents can enjoy the World Cup on-site.

MHA Westbury Grange in Newport Pagnell has utilised some unused space in the home and converted it into a bar.

Named Westbury Bar, it has been opened to coincide with the 2026 World Cup. MHA Westbury Grange revealed that the bar was opened on its second floor and offers a selection of drinks, a dartboard and snacks.

Jo Cassidy, administration manager said: “The bar area was where we had an old bookshelf which wasn't in use, so we decided to convert it into a bar.

“It’s been a joint effort by all staff and in total it took us around 2-3 weeks to get the bar up and running. The idea came from our deputy home manager and once we discussed it with the rest of the home, we decided to give it a go.

“Especially with the football World Cup going on, our residents have a chill-out zone where they can enjoy the game along with some refreshments.

“We serve a selection of drinks, along with some snacks and it's a really nice atmosphere for everyone. We have a dartboard and record player in there as well just to add some extra items, and everyone loves what we have done with the space.”

The care home also revealed that it created a personalised plaque to celebrate the opening of its mini-bar and chill out zone. MHA Westbury Grange provides residential dementia and general nursing care for 45 residents.
