The owners of a new super-gym in Milton Keynes are all pumped up and ready to ‘break the mould’ in personal fitness when the lockdown eases.

Husband and wife team Paul and Jess Tomlinson have invested a cool £1m in the highest quality equipment as Fierce prepares to throw open its doors at Old Wolverton.

The couple aim to make their 20,000ft state-of-the-art gym the go-to place for everyone from ‘strongmen’ and women to bodybuilders, powerlifters, functional trainers, cardio fans, yoga practitioners and even budding kickboxers.

With room for 2,000 people to work out it will be the largest independently owned gym in Milton Keynes.

“It has always been our dream to have a gym,” said Jess. “What we wanted to create was an environment where strongman meets cardio, bodybuilders meet powerlifters and – despite their differences – they all have one thing in common...a passion for fitness.

“While Milton Keynes has lots of gyms for different disciplines, we felt there was a gap for one that catered for a variety of them under one roof.”

As well as two floors of the latest high-end, plate loaded weightlifting and cardio machines, Fierce has a raft of other innovative and fun equipment.

This includes a 10-foot high rotating and tilting climbing wall and a basketball ab-training machine that lets ‘players’ hit their target of punishing sit-ups while losing themselves in the fun of scoring baskets. There is also a 1,000 sq ft yoga studio and a separate room for seminars..

Inclusivity is a keyword at Fierce, with a wheelchair ramp at the front of the building, a disabled wetroom and plans to run classes for children as young as five.

Fierce is named after Fierce Fitness, the personal training business Jess had been running before husband Paul sold last year the IT business he had built from scratch to an enterprise with 100 staff.

The gym is all geared up to open on July 15th if the prime minister gives the go-ahead to ease lockdown restrictions.

“We want people with different fitness interests, from different communities, to come together and try something new,” said Jess.

“We know what it is to be members of a gym where you are just regarded as an income, but that is not the Fierce way.

“We want to promote an environment that inspires and motivates not intimidates. We don’t just want gym members – we want a Fierce family!

“You are running your first 5k race – we want to know about it and tell all the other members.

“You competed in a powerlifting meet – we want to put the pictures on our digital signage.

“You are prepping for a bodybuilding show - we are here to support you.

“Everyone is different and just because your best friend likes circuit training it doesn’t mean you have to.

“We recognise that people have different interests, likes and dislikes when it comes to fitness and so we cater for everyone.”

Until 1st June Fierce Gym has a special early bird offer of just £25 per month for the first year and £37.50 a month after that.

“And NHS staff can have a month free with no commitment as our way of saying thank you,” says Jess.
