Stony Stratford health centre to be upgraded after new funding revealed

A medical centre in Stony Stratford will be one of 27 across the country to be upgraded after the Government announced new funding.

The improvements at the centre in Market Square will be completed next year and will provide additional space for more clinical teams, such as urgent treatment, GP, and pharmacy services, to work under the same roof.

Two other centres across the Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes (BLMK) Integrated Care Board area, in Luton and Shefford, will also have improvement works.

Jan Thomas, chief executive of the Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes Integrated Care Board, said: “I’m delighted that we have been able to secure funding so that we can turn disused and poorly used space at some of our health centres into clinical areas and provide bases for our community health services.

“We look forward to launching our new ICB next week, publishing our new strategy, and getting on with the delivery - this means improving patient satisfaction, reducing the time spent waiting for care, and ensuring the National Health Service is financially sustainable.”

Health Minister Stephen Kinnock said the Government is “transforming healthcare”.

He added: ”These one-stop-shops will help end the maze of referrals and repeated conversations, treating not just poor health but the causes of it too.”
