Mounting concern about the spread of the Indian coronavirus variant has led to speculation that the UK’s journey out of lockdown could be derailed.
A cluster of Indian variant cases have been confirmed in Milton Keynes, with neighbouring Bedford suffering a significant spike in Covid cases this weekend.
But across England, fewer than one in 14 new Covid cases are among the at-risk 60 and over age group, with people under 30 accounting for half of all cases in the seven days to 11 May.

We have crunched the latest numbers from the UK government coronavirus dashboard to reveal which age groups are seeing the highest number of cases.
The figures refer to the total number of cases, not the rate per head of the population.
Of the 69 cases recorded in Milton Keynes between 5 and 11 May, the top 10 worst affected age groups are as follows:
1. 50-54-year-olds
People aged between 50-54 accounted for the highest number of cases between 5 and 11 May, with 9 cases 13% of the total cases in the borough.
2. 35-39-year-olds
People aged between 35 and 39 also amount for 13% of the overall total, nine cases were confirmed for this age group.
3. 30-34-year-olds
This age group also returned nine positive Covid tests during this time period.
4. 10-14-year-olds
Children aged between 10-14 accounted for 11.6% of the positive Covid cases, eight cases were confirmed.
