MK North MP Ben Everitt MP has issued a rallying call to over-40s throughout the borough as he booked his own Covid vaccine today.

Mr Everitt is encouraging MK residents not to shun the jab and to do the same when it’s their turn.

Last week anybody aged 40 or over before July 1 was invited to get a vaccine. The programme continues to make great progress with the UK reaching the milestone of 50 million jabs over the weekend.

But Mr Everitt wants to make sure the high levels of vaccine uptake continues as we move down the age groups.

He said: “At the last count over 90% of over 70s in MK had received both doses of the COVID vaccine and almost 94% of over 45s had received their first which is fantastic progress but it’s vital we don’t get complacent now.

“Every single jab is another beacon of hope in our fight against the pandemic and an extra step towards freedom so when you get the call or text, please get the vaccine.”

Last week’s statistics from the NHS revealed that up until April 25, 44,776 second doses had been administered across the whole of MK so far with 167,355 doses in total delivered since the start of the vaccination programme.

The government is aiming to offer all adults in the UK a dose of the vaccine before the end of July.
