The major development will allow wagamama to safely expand the business as the country carefully gets back to work following eleven weeks of lockdown.

The new click and collect service in conjunction with the launch of their new click and collect website allows guests to pre-order and select a collection time to avoid a queue at restaurant.

Last month wagamama announced the reopening of 67 nationwide delivery sites (with a handful of click and collect sites) which operated safely by strictly following government and medical advice with increased hygiene frequency, new safety protocols and health questionnaires to ensure both staff and customers are safe.

This proved very successful and meant wagamama could give the go ahead for all 67 sites to operate click and collect on June 3 with an additional 18 sites opening on June 11; the remainder of the 15 sites to open by the end of next month (July).

The click and collect service will allow customers to order meals and drinks online and chose an exact collection time which will reduce the need for queueing and enhance safety.

The combination of delivery and takeout represents a significant return to work for the UK’s most popular pan Asian brand.

This new operation also means wagamama can safely welcome more teams back to work as the country carefully resumes business.

The new click and collect operation is one of many service innovations wagamama will be trailing as they adapt to changing consumer needs and a new normal.

The restaurant chain is already looking ahead to the future and developing new ways of operating their in restaurant experience in anticipation for opening for dine in as lockdown restrictions ease.

Emma Woods, wagamama CEO, said: “We recognise life after covid-19 requires all of us to adapt to a ‘new normal’.

"For wagamama we have wanted to ensure we can still get our delicious fresh food to our guests but this has to be underpinned by an imperative to do this safely for both our teams, guests and the delivery drivers who support us.

"Both contactless delivery and pre booking your takeout slot through click + collect supports this safety-first operating stance for wagamama."
