Shared Ownership meant I could do it on my own
Newly qualified teacher Kate Palmer, managed to save well but she still thought she would be living back at home till the right affordable property came along.
“I had saved a deposit after a year, but I thought I would be living with mum for another five years,” the secondary school teacher said.
However, thanks to Domovo’s shared ownership offering, Kate found an apartment in the heart of Milton Keynes which was an ideal first home and within her price range.
She bought 50% share in the spacious and airy one-bedroom at Wharf View. “Shared ownership meant I could do it on my own,” she said. “It didn’t take long to save up the deposit, but it was a case of finding the right place.
Having a home of her own also gives Kate space to work – as a teacher she often had to take work home with her.
“Domovo kept in contact. The buying process itself was straightforward; I had a mortgage in principle within two weeks, which Domovo facilitated.”
Kate bought the apartment before it was built, but said she was happy to do so. “I did see the show apartment,” she said. “I have lots of friends who have moved into similar apartments so I knew what it would be like.”
As for the location, it is perfectly placed in the middle of Milton Keynes, so if ever Kate moves schools in the area, she is still within easy commute.
“There is a huge local park and a lake, but it is also near the town centre,” she said.
Kate bought a 50% share, with a mortgage of £95,000 and a £5,000 deposit and pays around £750 a month, with the option to buy further shares up until 100% ownership.
“It has left me with lots more money at my disposal,” she said.
Finding my perfect home
Mark Jennings didn’t have to wait long to find his “perfect home” – and is looking forward to making a life there with his new wife.
Working as a sales office administrator for a small, family-run PPE distributor Mark now owns a quaint one-bedroom apartment in Milton Keynes after coming across the Campbell Wharf development with Domovo Homes.
Mark said: “I did online searches of shared ownership developments in Milton Keynes, and I caught wind of the Campbell Wharf Development that Domovo was involved with.

“Having lived in Milton Keynes my whole life, I know this is a prime spot to have as my first home, and also a great investment!”
Mark recently got married in Turkey, where his wife currently lives and she is now in the process of emigrating to join him in the UK. Until then he is busy getting the house ready.
“I look forward to going on walks with her by the canal and getting involved in all the fun events held at the nearby Campbell Park and Willen Lake.”
As this was Mark’s first home he was pleased to have received a lot of support from the Domovo team along the way.

All of the one bedroom homes and maisonettes have been sold, so would-be owners wanting to move into this desirable location will need to be quick, as all are expected to be sold within the next few months.
