Milton Keynes tool hire firm aims to save money and the environment on those DIY jobs
Whether it is a big job in the garden, a complicated DIY project, or a simple repair around the home, having to buy a tool you know you will hardly use again is not only an unwanted expense but a cost to the environment.
ToolHack founder Daniel Obasi says a shared economy is the way forward if we are going to save the earth’s vital resources as well as work our way through the current economic crisis.
How it works
His firm, based in Milton Keynes, invites owners to list the tools they would like to hire out. They set a rate and can publish images on the website.
The customer can browse the site for the tool they need, then contact the lister or check if an item is available by using an availability checker.
Peace of mind
To ensure customers are trading with reputable hirers ToolHack takes a number of security precautions. Daniel said: “We work with Stripe payment processors to verify the identity of all listers in our platform to facilitate payments and remittances. To sign up with us, you would be required to provide valid means of identification such as a driving licence or passport, you would also be required to provide a proof of address like utility bills.”
Helping the planet and the economy
The idea of ToolHack came when Daniel was renting a house. He said: “I wanted to tidy up the garden and I ended up buying tools I only used once, like a strimmer.
“Renting tools means you save money but you are also helping the environment because the resources which go into making the tools are not being wasted.”
