Pass the water – the chilli festival is back!
Frost’s sixth annual hottie is ready to make mouths water from Saturday.
As in previous years, the Woburn Sands garden centre has a veritable feast of the fiery to tempt you along to the three-day event.
More than 30 exhibitors from across the country will be showing their wares, and there will be live music, salsa lessons and naturally, plenty of opportunities to sample the hot stuff – the Concrete Cow brewery have come up with a special chilli beer to support the festival too!
If you think you can beat the chilli challenge, step up to the plate in the literal sense.
The chilli eating contest will be hosted on Saturday and Sunday, before the Grand Final sorts the lightweights from the chilli-seekers on Monday.
In all, contestants have to make their way through 10 of the inoffensive looking little blighters – each one hotter than the last.
If you are better at making use of the chilli’s in recipes, let’s be tasting your efforts then – a panel of judges will try out your homemade chilli sauces, chutney, jam and pickles.
It’s worth trying out too – the winner will take home a trophy and £100 of vouchers to spend at the gardening emporium.
A daily fancy dress competition will be seeking out the best Mexican fancy dress.
In 2014 more than 6000 heat-seekers visited the festival.
Will you help swell those numbers this time around?
“We are so excited to be hosting our sixth annual Chilli Festival,” said managing director James Frost.
“Every year it has grown and it’s brilliant to see that it has become part of everyone’s calendar for the August bank holiday weekend.
“We have some sizzling entertainment and lots of exhibitors with mouth-watering – and possible eye watering – delicacies.”
Entry is £3 per person and includes a free packet of chilli seeds.
Under 16s and Gardening Club members go free, and if you keep your wristband on, you can visit free daily.
