Health leaders from NHS Milton Keynes Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and MK Council have cost effective summer solutions for parents that will keep the kids busy indoors or out this summer holiday.
Physical activity is essential for a child’s health. It helps them develop strong bones and muscles, maintain a healthy weight and helps promote their independence. Most of all, physical activity can be great fun for all the family.
“It’s important that children stay active and enjoy the outdoors – making the most of their time away from the classroom,” said Dr Nicola Smith, GP Chair at NHS Milton Keynes CCG.
“There are so many opportunities for children and families to be active in the Milton Keynes area, so I would urge everyone to make time for outings to our local parks, and get kids walking, running and playing. Cycling is a great form of exercise and one that can be enjoyed by all ages.
“Don’t forget, the sun is at its strongest between 11am and 3pm so if your child is outdoors during this time, make sure they are covered in a high factor sun cream containing UVA and UVB protection, (even in overcast conditions) and reapply regularly throughout the day.
“Use a waterproof lotion if you are visiting an outdoor swimming pool. Try to encourage children to wear a hat and keep hydrated – particularly if they are taking part in sporting activities.”
The popular free MK Play Day, run by the MK Play Partnership, will return to Campbell Park on Wednesday, August 3 and everyone is welcome to attend.
