Ian Hunter at The Stables: Review

Joined by Andy York on guitar and vocals and David Rowe (ex-Johnny Cash) on upright bass and vocals, the electro-acustic set featured numbers spanning the years of Ian’s solo work, along with favourite Mott anthems.

From All The Good Ones Are Taken through to Michael Picasso, with Ian remembering, as always, Mick Ronson figured in the set, alongside LP title track Man Overboard and The Girl from the Office.

Big Mouth and Shrunken Head from 2007 also got an airing, before Ian took us back to the ‘70s with Once Bitten, Twice Shy, which had the audience helping out.

Ships (a heartfelt number concerning lost relationships, When I’m President (the latest album title number) and Saint were played along with Ta Shunka Witco (Crazy Horse) and Life, telling us not to worry, as it is only life...

The encore followed a standing ovation and delivered Roll Away The Stone and of course All The Young Dudes, which featured support artist Jason (usually found with his band, The Scorchers) Ringenberg contributing vocals.

Closing with Leadbetters and Goodnight Irene, the sold-out crowd went home still wanting more.

Ian may be in his early 70s, but he can put most of the latest young ‘uns to rights.
