Incredibly, it is 12 years since the first Live Lounge went out on Radio 1, during Jo Whiley’s show.

Things change of course, and with Jo now occupying air time on Radio 2, her vacancy has been filled by Fearne Cotto, but the Live Lounge has remained a constant, essential part of radio land.

It’s a chance for bands to show what they are capable of, performing one of their own tracks and a cover version, and now you can wrap your ears around a slew of the more recent participants with the lastest compilation to hit the shelves.

BBC Radio1’s Live Lounge 2013 is a two disc set of substance, with a truly diverse feel.

Among those featured, you’ll get Rudimental (who now feature MK’s own Bheanie Bhebhe hitting the hard things), Ellie Goulding, Tom Odell, Little Mix and Jessie Ware.

Want something a little heavier for your money?

Then we suggest you plump for the deluxe edition of the CD, which features an additional 13 performances – including Scottish oiks Biffy Clyro, who chose to do their take on 80s classic We Built This City.

This 8th volume of Live Lounge deliveries is a guaranteed winner too: Last year’s edition doubled sales of the previous year’s release, making it the third most successful volume in a compilation series that has so far sold an incredible 3.2 million albums.

We have copies to give away in this week’s competition.

To be in with a chance of winning, we want you to tell us the name of the group who had the original hit with We Built This City.

Send your answer – together with name, address and daytime telephone number – to: Live Lounge competition, Citizen News Desk, Napier House, Auckland Park, Bond Avenue, Bletchley, MK1 1BU.Alternatively, email details to putting ‘Live Lounge Competition’ in the subject box.
