We Are the Ocean unleashed their much anticipated new album Ark on Monday.

Come Saturday night, the Essex based quartet will be transferring tracks from that into their live set– they begin a number of headline dates at The Craufurd Arms.

“Ark is as expansive and eclectic a work as we’ve ever done,” bassist Jack Spence told me.

“Musically and lyrically it’s the most exciting album we’ve written, and we don’t blow our trumpets easily!”

This new opus - their fourth - is the first at their new home, BMG Chrysalis.

It means they are now label mates with Smashing Pumpkins and The Charlatans. Nice work.

Ark is the sound of a band more confident in its style, taking strides, not mere steps. Ambitious, some have said. And why not?

We Are the Ocean have earned their stripes with those previous releases, touring bouts on the US Vans Warped tour and with Muse.

The time is ripe and ready for them to take the lead now. And if that happens, you’ll not see the fellas in a venue as intimate at this one for much longer.

“We haven’t been to Milton Keynes in ages,” Jack says, “...and through recent touring we are a well-oiled live show machine, so we can’t wait to play.

Tickets are £12, Twin Wild support. Doors at 7.30pm.
