The Great Linford Convenience Store was accused by some customers of cashing in on the coronavirus crisis.

But others were grateful for the chance to stock up and described the mega pack as a godsend in these inflated times.

A photo of the towering pile of loo rolls was posted on social media just before the weekend and it attracted hundreds of views and comment.

In response the business owner put out a post on the store's own Facebook page to answer the critics.

He wrote: "I know that some of you start panicking when you see toilet roll for £14.99. The price was for 36 rolls, which works out around 41p per roll."

He said he had paid the supplier £13 for each pack.

"We have expenses as well. If all of you are happy to queue at a big supermarket and come back empty handed, please do so. But don’t spoil our reputation to the locals.

"I know all the people who put a negative comment never used our store, if they did, then they won’t do something like this. Furthermore, we can only buy at the moment what ever product is available as there is not lots of selection available.

"I am not saying we are selling a cheapest price, but we are not trying to rip anyone off. We have always been looking after our locals and we will keep doing that. Thank you for everyone for supporting and understanding us."

One customer replied: "People will always have something to moan about. I've just come in to purchase a 36 pack to share between my family and friend who are unable to get any. I don't think the price is unreasonable at all. I'll also share this to anyone who needs anything. Thank you also for offering me FREE toilet roll when I told you I was giving it out to help people. Shame on the people slandering you. "

But another Facebook user was not appeased.

He wrote: " Save your bulls**t for the CMA (Competition and Markets Authority)."
