Alexandra Burke stars in a new production of the smash-hit musical comedy Sister Act, which tells the story of a disco diva whose life takes a surprising turn when she witnesses a murder. Under protective custody, she is hidden in the one place she won’t be found – a convent. Cue a story of self-discovery, sisters doing it for themselves and plenty of laughs.

Mark Thomas, The Stables, Wavendon, September 29

Activist and comic Mark Thomas is back with his new show The Red Shed. It’s inspired by a club in Wakefield which was home to Mark’s first public performances as well as the beginnings of his political awakening. Mark pieces together the club’s history and works alongside it to campaign with some of the poorest workers in the country.

Music Against Homelessness, various venues, September 23 to 25

Alan McGee, the man who gave Oasis a record deal, is backing a series of gigs for a campaign called Musicians Against Homelessness to raise money for the charity Crisis. Artists including Manny Ademolu, Stone Thieves and Apple Shift Seven are taking part.

Elephant Appreciation Weekend, Woburn Safari Park, September 24 and 25

The park is inviting members of the public to a special weekend in support of the International Elephant Foundation. The park’s Asian elephants will be ambassadors for the species over the weekend, helping keepers with their mission to raise awareness and funds for the IEF’s conservation efforts.
