Are A+ rated double and triple glazed windows worth it and what does it mean?

Are A+ rated double and triple glazed windows worth it and what does the energy rating system mean?

The short answer is ‘yes they are’, according to this Milton Keynes business, which says having top-quality glass in your windows could actually help to heat your home and save money on your bills!

The rating system may all seem a bit confusing, but the principle is pretty straight forward.

An A rated window will release as much heat as it lets in, whilst an A+ rated window lets in MORE heat than it releases – so your room actually gains heat. The glass is specially formulated with a coating to prevent heat escaping and reflects it back into your home.

This doesn’t mean your home will heat up or get too hot in the summer; in fact the opposite will happen. And as double and triple-glazed windows are designed with insulating gases between the panes, this can not only stop the heat from inside escaping, but the prevent heat from outside coming in when needed.

Window Energy Rating

The Window Energy Rating (WER) system is used to determine the energy-efficiency of windows and goes from E to A++, with A++ being the most energy-efficient – put simply, A++ windows are the best your money can buy.

Since 2010 building regulations in the UK have demanded windows have at least a C rating. But reputable companies, like Custom Glaze in Milton Keynes, offer A+ Energy Rated windows as standard and A++ for even more efficiency.

Of course double (and triple) glazing will not only keep your home warmer and cosier, but quieter too. And not only can you purchase replacement windows in an almost limitless range of colours, profiles, textures and styles to suit your taste and the look or age of your home, but you can be reassured that they’ll also keep you ‘safe as houses’, with super-secure handles and locks.
