Start the year on a high note literally, with a steam journey across the dramatic Cumbrian Fells and the world-famous Settle & Carlisle Line.

Historic Chester

Heading North West on Saturday, March 2, The Cheshireman gives you the opportunity to visit this ancient walled city in style by train for a journey reminiscent of the Golden Age of rail travel. Chester’s Roman amphitheatre, cathedral, castle and 14th Century ‘Rows’ lined with small shops and cafes, make for a fascinating day.

Breathtaking coastal views

Join The Cumbrian Coast Express from Milton Keynes on Saturday, June 1, and you are set for an exciting journey with steam along the exposed Cumbrian coast. This special train will take you to ancient border city Carlisle where you can explore the cathedral, castle, museum or shops. From Carlisle the train is joined by an historic steam locomotive for a breathtaking run along the coast with spectacular cliff edge views and the Isle of Man visible on a clear day across the Irish Sea.

On Saturday, July 6, there is an opportunity to see the North Wales Coast by steam. Picking up at Milton Keynes, The North Wales Coast Express will be joined by its magnificent steam locomotive at Crewe. From there you will steam on crossing the river Dee into Wales, passing through the coastal resorts of Prestatyn, Rhyl and Colwyn Bay along the delightful Irish Sea coastline. At Llandudno there is a break so that you can explore this seaside town with its Victorian promenade, beach, or take the tramway or cable car to the summit of the Great Orme for the fine views.
