The storm prompted an amber warning for much of MK from the Met Office.

It reached a peak just before 6pm, when part of the H8 Standing Way grid road near Brinklow had to be closed after a large tree fell across it. Highway crews turned out in the middle of the storm to remove it.

No sooner had they finished, then there was a report of another emergency. This time glass panes on flats at Dalgin Place and Columba Place had become loose and were posing a danger.

The section of redway outside the flats was closed off to protect the public.

Meanwhile, in Yearlstone Square on Ashland, metal cladding was blown off a four storey building in the local centre, falling on three parked cars and damaging them.

Firefighters from West Ashland Fire Station used a turntable ladder to remove the cladding.

A tree fell across the road opposite new Bradwell cemetery, near the Asda store, and fallen branches littered many other roads across the city.
