Adoptionplus shares new research findings at event in Milton Keynes

The Duchess of Bedford has supported the agency since it was first set up, and so the event was held at Woburn Abbey.

The Nurturing Attachment Group programme designed by Dr Kim Golding was provided to adoptive parents in four regions around the UK in an attempt to improve national understanding of therapeutic approaches that are helpful for parents caring for children who have suffered loss and abuse.

During the afternoon adoptive parents from Milton Keynes took part in a panel, where they spoke about their personal experience of the therapy programme.

Their contribution was described as “brave, honest and very emotional” and added to the professional understanding of what elements are really important in the provision of adoption support services.

Adoptionplus, who were recently awarded ‘Outstanding’ by OFSTED, are committed to improving services available to adoptive families.

“Parents caring for children who have experienced significant trauma in their young lives deserve access to effective support that helps them in their care for their children,” said director of services Joanne Alper.

“We are committed to do what we can to increase understanding in order to improve the quality of therapeutic services”.

As a result of the positive research findings, Adoptionplus will be running a Nurturing Attachment Group Programme on a regular basis from their therapy rooms in Buckinghamshire.

Adoptive families in the region will benefit from having access to this innovative and effective service.
