Amazon Milton Keynes goes gold for children with cancer

The local team joined a global movement called #GoGold and linked in with colleagues in Amazon sites around the world to host a #PJammin ® party in support of local families affected by cancer.

The theme paid tribute to brave children with cancer who can spend a long period of time living in their pyjamas during treatment and recovery. Gold is the colour of the ribbon that is the international symbol of childhood cancer.

In honour of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, the Amazon team in Milton Keynes, along with Amazon in Hemel Hempstead and Dunstable, made a £3,000 donation to the Luton and Dunstable University Hospital. The donation will be put towards their new child oncology rooms project.

The hospital also received a surprise donation of 30 Fire Tablets, which will be enjoyed by the young children in their care.

Speaking on the event, Scott Wharton, general manager at Amazon in Milton Keynes, said: “The Luton and Dunstable University Hospital does vital work for the children in our community and we wanted to support them and the families who rely on them with this event. It’s great to be able to join forces with our Amazon colleagues not only here in the UK, but around the world, as we seek to raise awareness and provide support for children and families impacted by childhood cancer.”

Sarah Amexheta, head of fundraising at Luton and Dunstable University Hospital, added: “I’d like to thank the Amazon teams in Milton Keynes, Hemel Hempstead and Dunstable for their support with the donation. We’re glad that the work being done by the Luton and Dunstable University Hospital is being supported by the local Amazon team, and I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone at the fulfilment centre for organising the party and providing this support.”

The event and donation forms part of the ‘Amazon in the Community’ programme whereby the company supports the communities around its operating locations across the UK.
