Strictly Come Dancing is back on our TV screens this weekend. A new series of the popular BBC show hosted by Bruce Forsyth and Tess Daly also signals the official start of training for the Strictly MK dancers.
And it means the countdown to the big event on October 26 starts now.
Strictly MK was launched on July 2 with the names of the celebrity dancers announced. They include mayor Brian White, Commonwealth gold medallist Gail Emms, Citizen editor Olga Norford, and Open Univesity librarian Anne Gambles.
Anne joins the couples as winner of the Golden Ticket for the final celebrity place in Strictly MK.
Not one to miss a chance to dance, and with a philosophy of ‘volunteer first, think later...’ Anne entered the Heart FM Strictly MK Golden Ticket competition with a video of her dancing on her 40th birthday and a few words explaining why she should be given the final celebrity place.
She says she’s excited, and a little bit nervous, to have won, but proud to be able to help raise much needed funds for MacMillan Cancer Support and Willen Hospice.
Anne, a quietly calm project manager for the Open University Library, has been dancing modern jive in her spare time for many years. She learned at Ceroc Sheffield while studying for her librarianship degree and continued to dance when she started work at the Opne University.
She met her future husband at a Ceroc Bedford freestyle dance and several years, a few pairs of shoes and two children later she still dances regularly.
As a trustee for a local charity Anne knows first-hand that volunteer work is challenging, rewarding and invaluable to the community.
But also that sadly it’s usually actioned by only a few people, each wearing multiple voluntary hats. She currently wears two, one as the treasurer of an after-school/holiday club and the other as a webmaster for the Hanslope village website.
Having won the Golden Ticket she is looking forward to the challenge of learning new dance steps with a professional partner and dancing her heart out alongside the other local celebrities at Strictly MK on October 26, not to mention swapping her multiple hats for a glamorous dress.
